Welcome Psychologists! Maybe you recall reading my blog “7 steps to better sleep from a Psychologist who’s been there“. If you haven’t read it yet, please feel free to have a look (you are also welcome to distribute it to clients).
Anyhoo, you’ve probably clicked on this blog to have a squiz at the Sleep Diaries I’ve created. If you are an Australian registered Psychologist you are more than welcome to download, and freely distribute it to your heart’s content to both clients and other mental health professionals, at your discretion.
And oh yeah – I’ve made this sleep resource more accessible. You notice I say “more accessible” and not straight up “accessible”? That’s because I am open to feedback and collaboration around the accessibility of these resources for you and your clients – and I acknowledge that one person’s accessible is another person’s inaccessible!
By the way, all versions have also been screened with accessibility software – among other accessibility edits, (apart from my copyright notice) all font is at least size 12 so you and your clients don’t have to squint.
UPDATE August 2025
I have added 4 new Sleep Diaries! They are formatted to day to a page – the idea is that there will be a lot more room for people for people with bigger handwriting styles, and the font is even bigger for people who prefer this too! I hope this makes this resource even more accessible 🙂
So, without further ado, see below for Sleep Diary resources – there are multiple versions so don’t forget to keep scrolling!
- What I call the “Sans” version (the font style used is a version of style called Sans).
- There is a PDF file inserted below where a preview of the Sleep Diary is visible. The background of the PDF is white and the text is black. There is a paragraph introducing the sleep diary, and below that is a table – 7 columns (entitled with the days if the week) and 11 rows total – 9 rows where there is a corresponding space to input both sleep and pre-sleep data for the corresponding day.
- And here is the day to a page version of this sleep diary.
- There is a PDF file inserted below where a preview of the day to a page Sleep Diary is visible. The background of the PDF is white and the text is black. There is a paragraph introducing the sleep diary, and below that is an image of sleeping emoji/emoticon. There are 7 pages following (scroll down), each page is titled with a day of the week, and underneath this is a table. There are 2 columns and 10 rows total – 9 rows where there is a corresponding space to input both sleep and pre-sleep data for the corresponding day.
- The “Black/White Inverted Sans” version for digital use – some people report that inverting colours is less fatiguing.

- The “Black/White Inverted Sans” version for print.. because not many people have white pens that can write on black!

- The “Multicoloured Sans” version – scientific research suggests that different coloured words may support reading comprehension, click here for the journal articles.
- There is a PDF file inserted below where a preview of the Sleep Diary is visible. The background of the PDF is white and the text alternates in colour – red, green, orange and blue per word before the cycle repeats.
